The Media Manage is where pictures, banners, and pdf files are stored.

Images can be loaded straight into the articles on the articles page. This allows you to skip this step. However the media manager give you the ability to create folders so you can categories your files. Media Manager will accept the following types of files: BMP, CSV, DOC GIF, ICO, JPG, JPEG, ODG, ODP, ODS, ODT, PDF, PNG, PPT, SWF, TXT, XCF, XLS, BMP, CSV, DO, GIF, ICO, JPG, JPEG, ODG, ODP, ODS, ODT, PDF, PNG, PPT, SWF, TXT, XCF, XLS.
You can create a folder at the bottom left of the page for categories your images. We recommend you creating a backup folder

Depending on which Joomla Template one of the following folders will be important if you are using banners on your front page. Flash_images or banner folder is used to rotate images on the front page. These folders are set for showing images on the front page.
While your loading your images if you create a backup folder, this folder can be used to store images for future use. This is a good practice for images that you may choose to use for events that happen just a year.
